The cylinder is one of the major part of an engine. The cylinder contains a piston. Different designs for the cylinders lead to some of the various labels they are given. Cylinders placed in a manner as to resemble a v brings about the v series of motors. There are those that are arranged in a line side by side and are the in line cylinders. The number of cylinders is also included in the labels, for example the v6 has six cylinders.

The piston is usually lined with piston liners, since it is a moving part, lubrication is very important and the liner makes sure the lubricant is kept in and also heat from the piston is transferred to the coolant by these liners. There are also piston rings that are in between the liners and the inside part of cylinder which prevents oil from leaking. Damage to the rings causes oil wastage.

The cylinders are covered by the cylinder head. It has ports and tracts that allows air flow in and gases out of cylinders. Coolant is also allowed into the cylinder through it as well. Also valves are opened and closed at convenient times. The camshaft enables one valve to be opened when air needs to get in and closed when another one is used to expel exhaust gases out. The camshaft is connected by the rocker arms to the valves in order as to ensure proper movement of valves.

The fuel that mixes with air is introduced into the motors by a device known as the fuel injector in some engines. It also can be used to suck out the fuel when needed to. This fuel is injected into the cylinders.

The crankshaft is a part that rotates circularly as the piston moves up and down. The piston is connected to the crankshaft by the connecting rod to enable the transfer of motion energy. The crankshaft is held by motor bearings. The camshaft facilitates the opening and closing of valves and are connected to the valves by the rocker arms.

The fuel injector is another one of the facility in some motors. They are used to, as the name suggests, introduce fuel into the motor. It can also be used to suck out fuel. The fuel is injected into the cylinders.

The above gives brief simple descriptions of what roles each part plays in ensuring successful motion of a machine. These generator areas need proper care accorded to them such as regular tune ups to ensure the areas are working correctly at any given time. By understanding the general workings of the generator one can then easily breakdown to the various existing models and the alterations included in them. It is also important to realize that there are different classifications based on how these parts function together, their orientations or how it ignites.
