Tips For Preparing Before You Use Boat Storage Spaces

By Linda Price

Doing recreational activities using boats is fun particularly when you do it together with associates, friends and relatives. You could travel together on a lake, rive, or sea and enjoy diving, swimming, fishing and some other water sports. These are done during hot summer days usually where it has a perfect weather for these activities without worrying about freezing yourselves.

Using a vessel of your own is advantageous because you need not worry of its availability unlike the rental boats where you should confirm its availability. But you need to rent one of the boat storage spaces Tucson has for protecting your vessel during the coming cold seasons. Winter has some harsh forces which might damage the boat.

Although you need to perform some things before storing them to avoid it from getting damaged even when it is safely stored for a long while. These damages may not be covered by the insurance policy you have and will cost great money to have them repaired before being usable again. Here are various tips in preparing for boat storage.

Take your craft onto the water for one last time before you store it, either with relatives, associates, friends or alone. Aside from enjoying together the cruise, you must be observing if anything there in your vessel needs fixing. Have them first fixed before you winterize them because cold weather could worsen its condition and make its problem worse.

Clean thoroughly your boat by scrubbing any nasty gunk out you may find which build up during your use of them that season. This includes grime, slime and barnacles but do not clean only exteriors but the interiors also of the craft. Check their refrigerator lockers and search for those that will spoil if left over the winter there.

After you finished cleaning thoroughly your craft, you should get it dry before sending it to the storage space for it. Drain away all the water from it and the more efficient way of doing it is with raising the bow and leave it for some time to evaporate the moisture. Purchase mildew control bags and place them in compartments and cabin to prevent mildew.

Change the oil due to it having a great chance of being mixed with acid and water while using it and the engines could be corroded. Doing this is essential for water crafts and avoid damage due to its long idleness and do this by replacing its filter, flushing the oil out then pouring a new one in. Refresh coolant system through draining it and flushing remaining ones with water then replacing a new antifreeze after.

Loosen or completely remove drive belts then place them inside storage because the winter cold will make their tensions remain all season. This might develop cracks because of constant thawing and freezing process. Disconnect battery so it will not get drained.

Give a wax job to it after the above steps were done. This does not make the boat to look nice but prevents corrosion and rust. Cover it after for prevention of grime and dust accumulation.
