By Dennis Peterson

If you have an old or damaged car beyond repair, consider selling it for you to get some money. Getting cash for wrecked cars is easy as there are things you can do so as to maximize the amount of money you receive. If you have never done this before, worry not as this article will guide you through the process.

The first step you should take is looking for local junkyards within your location. There are probably a number of them within your area and with the help of a directory, you can pick on one. Contact a number of them and inform them that you have an automobile that you would like to sell. They will most likely ask you about the particulars such as the model and the damage the automobile has.

After making contact with a yard, they will immediately respond to your offer. You may be needed to take your vehicle to them for them to assess it and provide you with an estimate. This, however, may cost you as you have to look for mean for dropping it off or fueling it. Only consider those who offer you a deal after you give them the details needed.

When you have called different yards, the next step is to do a comparison of the offers. Doing this helps you to pick on the best one. Before you take the vehicle, ensure you prepare it. During preparation, remove anything that is valuable. Check the seats, boot or any other place that you normally keep valuable items as you will never get them back.

The personnel at the junkyard will inspect your automobile before agreeing to do business with you. If it is indeed as you described it, you should be offered the amount they promised over the phone. If you left out something while explaining the condition of the automobile, try mentioning it as you negotiate the price since you may be lucky. You may be provided with cash or a cheque as per your agreement.

Ensure that all the documents you need for the sale are ready. Most of the yards will require you to give them the title of your vehicle. This helps to prove that you are the actual owner of the automobile. However, if one does not have the title, they may still sell it as long as they get to show that they own it.

Inquire from the salvage yard about their protocol for taking damaged automobiles. Some of them will dismantle the car on their own while others may pay you more if you do it yourself as you will be saving them time. You also should ask them whether they will pay you more if you deliver the automobile to the yard versus them coming to pick it up.

You then should return your license plate for you to cancel the registration. Protocol differs from one state to the other. However, it is important that you return it to the Department of Motor Vehicles so that your registration is cancelled. The yard should notify you of what is expected once you deliver the vehicle in terms of returning your plates.
