Useful And Essential Facts About Stroker Engines

By Mark Morris

In the world of engines, the aim is usually to make fuel consumption more effective while achieving more output. Several design concepts have been pursued towards achieving this goal. Stroker engines are some of the latest inventions that have been very effective in revolutionizing how engines work. The work of a stroker kit is simply to increase the distance that the piston covers when the engine is working.

It can be said that the stroke of the engine is increased by increasing the distance covered by the piston. When the stroke of the engine is increased, the crankshaft is made to rotate faster. This increases the acceleration of the vehicle since higher torque is generated. The rotation of the wheels then increases, making the vehicle to move faster.

A car takes less time to accelerate to its top speed when the torque is very high. The top speed and power of car are however not improved by increasing the torque. The top speed and power of the car remain unchanged even when the torque is increased. Increasing the torque only makes the car to accelerate faster.

The distance from the top dead center to the bottom dead center of the cylinder that is covered by the piston is what is referred to as the stroke. Increasing the distance to be covered by the piston is known as stroking. There are three main ways to increase the stroke of the engine. Increasing the height of the block deck or increasing the cavity of the cylinder is one way to achieve this. This can be done by acquiring a customized block deck designed for stroked engine.

In the second alternative, one can extend the length of the rod that connects to the piston so that the piston can rotate across a bigger diameter. However, there is the risk of making the rod collide with cylinder head when its length is increased. This can be avoided by using aftermarket pistons that have an extended rod that is connected higher in the piston.

The third approach involves using a stroker kit. These can be bought easily from aftermarket stores. Some stores even do the assembling of these kits on behalf of their clients. The kit is comprised of several components, including pistons, crankshaft, main bearings, connecting rods, piston rings and pins, and rod bearings. Torque is increased substantially when these kits are used.

There are several advantages that are associated with stroked engines that make them worth considering. First, they provide enhanced displacement and they produce more torque with must ease. Secondly, they substantially reduce the time needed to reach top speed. Thirdly, there is no reason for down shift when one is accelerating from lower velocities if the car has a stroked engine.

Even though these products have several advantages, they also have some disadvantages. First of all, the piston in stroked engines is made to wear out faster. This happens so because of the increase in distance to be covered by the piston within the same time as other pistons. As such, the piston is overworked which contributes to early failure. Over-stroking also makes tires to wear out faster.
