Key Factors When Selecting A Filter Press

By Virginia Peterson

Filter presses are widely used in different applications and industries around the world for separating liquids and solids. Industries uses this equipment includes mineral processing, chemical, pharmaceuticals, aggregate processing, water and waste treatments, food and beverage and many other things. Due to its effectiveness, industries have effectively managed the materials waste separations. There are many factors to consider when choosing a Filter Press so individuals will have to conduct research in order top find the right one for their applications.

Drip trays and filter cloth cleaning. Filter cloth medias will allow solid particles and be captured between the plates while liquid particles will just pass through. All cloths will eventually get contaminated with solid materials between the cloth weave and on the surfaces. When the materials on the cloth has accumulated enough solid particles, it will affect the filtration rate.

Each plate has corner holes being milled through the whole thickness. When its being clamped together, these holes will act as pipes or pathways for the water to exit on one of each end that was stacked on the structural plates. The piping that is mounted in the structural plates which are mobile or stationary plats will direct the water into collection tanks or clarifier tanks.

Another thing to consider is the support plate designs. There are two options available which is overhead beams and side beams. The overhead beam supports the filter plates from overhead beams. It has complete access on the bottom and both sides of the filter plates. This type offers the best access for maintenance and cleaning the press.

Core blow features and dual feed. Filter presses could be fed from a single or both ends which is designed from feed piping. A large equipment has a lot of plates approximately between fifty to one hundred and require a huge flow of slurry during the first process of filtration. Feeding the equipment in both ends will allow the filtration time will dramatically decrease and have it filled faster.

Winterization is another problem that will pose a threat to many filter presses. Companies and producers that operates in cold temperatures must consider the cold climates to be a threat and can cause serious damages seriously. Even though the equipment is protected under roofs, freezing will still happen and will cause damage to the equipment.

A core blow is done by using sets of automatic valves which is connected into the feed piping. The slurries are being forced outside from the core hole with compressed air or pressurized water. The compressed air or water will be fed on one feed from the press and the slurries will be removed from the other end.

Individuals who wants to purchase filter presses must conduct some research first before purchasing one. Many companies and manufacturers are in this industry and each one of them are selling different equipment for various applications. You must determine the right one from different selections to purchase the right press for your application.

Budgeting will play an important role as well. Every machine has a different price and uses. You must call around the different manufacturers and suppliers to determine the right price affordable for your budget. However, keep in mind not to purchase the lowest price because it is being made by low quality materials.
