LMIA Exemptions You Should Know Beforehand

By Joseph Stewart

Working abroad have been the solution of many individuals for the lack of opportunities and benefits in their own country. You cannot do anything when the skills that you have are very necessary to other countries. It is only right to decide that working there would be a better option for your future needs. It might help you achieve your financial goals in the future. But if you are going to do this, you should know the requirements for each area.

Most agencies would give you a list of the items that you must have. Taking care of these things beforehand would help save you a lot of issues in the future. For those who have decided to go to Canada, you might need to have LMIA. This is a document that signifies the need of a certain company to hire a foreign worker.

This document is formally known as the Labor market impact assessment. It is required by the government that you are applying to and must be given by the employer. This signifies the need for foreign workers. It has to be submitted and given to you so that you can present it when you arrive to that particular country.

But there are exceptions to certain situations. For others, this might not be a necessary thing. Although there are exceptions to getting the assessment document, you will still have to submit the other documents especially the working permits and other credentials. Knowing the special cases could be very helpful for your needs.

These requirements might not apply to those who are currently under the international agreements. Business individuals and those who are currently in talks with investments and trading with other companies would not have to go through these things at all. Certain professionals might also be exempted with the rule.

Exchange program participants would not have to provide the assessment document at all. Sending students to other places might be the most known type of exchange program participant. But other businesses also participate in this especially those who have a branch in other areas. Once you are sent to the other country for work as an exchange program participant, some documents will no longer be necessary.

Those who married a local of the area will have the privilege of not providing other documents that even tourists need to give. But they will undergo a totally different process. This is because of the fact that they might become a citizen of the country as well. They need to follow other guidelines for their convenience in the future.

Doing volunteer work can exempt you from submitting certain documents. Others treat volunteers same as tourists. But this would depend on the need for these things. Other areas are very lenient. Knowing the variations on guidelines might be able to help you.

The bottom line is that you would have to coordinate with the employer. If you are getting the job through an agency, things might be smoother and easier since they already have connections to the country and they also have direct contact with the employers which is a good thing for you. You only need to prepare the ones that are being requested.
